THAT DAY CAN’T COME TOO SOON

dover12

‘Morning Sun on hottest English day’

Nothing matters this side of midnight
When fading shadows go chase the moon
I hope one day you’ll understand that
That day can’t come too soon

‘Empty Bar, Red-hot Day’

I captured visions of the blackness
Two dimensions are fine by me
Up above hidden stars are restless
Until the dawn put pay to their destiny

‘Cruiser with no place to cruise’

The clouds are resting some place
Sad shadows never reached the moon
The Sea God sacked all of his white horses
The sun a terminal hot air balloon

‘Pigeon Hotel’

Nothing matters this side of midnight
When fading shadows go chase the moon
I hope one day you’ll understand that
That day can’t come too soon

Here’s an odd thing – especially so for an instrumental. I got advised that this piece, ‘The Forgotten Daughter of Zeus’, the title track on an album of mine, got thirty-one plays in The States in just a couple of hours last Thursday. Ultra odd. With that in mind here it is. I hope you enjoy;

ONLY THE WINNERS RUN WILD

DSC00575 (2)

A Zoolon aside: In 55 BC Julius Caesar and his Roman army turned up in Dover ready to invade Britain. However, Caesar overlooked the cliffs from which the locals were lobbing giant boulders down at him.  Thinking to himself, ‘I don’t need this’ and without a Plan B he gave the invasion a miss.  Yet a year later in 54 BC he solved the problem by landing at a sandy beach up the coast – the rest is straight roads and history.

A day in the death of the soldier
A dream in the life of the child
Maybe, before the war he should have told her
Only the winners run wild

DCIM100MEDIA

The water mirror meets reality

Listen to the west wind serenade you
From the east you’ll hear a symphony
Big man’s deaf ears are out to betray you
To the percussion of the battlefield timpani

DSC01583 (2)

Tomorrow is another day

A day in the lost life of the unnamed soldier
A nightmare for the fatherless child
Sad days as you never got to hold her
Hold your breath, only the winners run wild

NOTHING AT ALL

zoolon1

The writing was never on the wall
It’s got to be epic or nothing at all
I heard in the distance a silent call
‘There’s no point in climbing if you can’t take a fall’

Tell that to the dream rescuer
Tell that to your beating heart
Tell that to the big mouth
Who says, ‘If it moves it sure ain’t art’

Time now to follow the shadows
Time to go hide away
Time to airbrush the rainbows
Time to be the hunter not the prey

The writing was never on the wall
The next one has to be epic or nothing at all

‘On The Edge’ from my ‘The Forgotten Daughter Of Zeus’ album. I hope you enjoy;

STARLESS MYSTERY

folkestone sky

‘Drama’

Most everything we see becomes theatre
A wild sea the ocean’s one-night-only stage
Up above, storm clouds dancing to the gale’s orchestration
And on the shoreline it don’t need any seating to engage

An audience of strangers who never bought a ticket
This show, the dark clouds have put it on for free
Eyes wide open until the standing ovation
A curtain call for a starless mystery

cloud4

‘Melodrama’

And I’m feeling alright come tonight, come the morning
And I’m feeling alright staring at a restless sky
And there’s never going to be a replay or brand new season
I’ll never know if the story was the truth or just a lie

Time for some music. A fierce number to match the dark sky. It’s called ‘One Man Band’. I hope you enjoy.

‘I WALK WITH YOU’

‘Source: Entertainment Mesh’

It’s always a privilege collaborating with Geetha Prod’hom  As I once wrote a while back she’s, “The talented lady of more artistic skills and genres than I could ever count.”

If you don’t know of her already, do check out the multi-faceted WP blog of GEETHA  – there’s a whole gallery of great poetry, art and other genres there. It’s well worth visiting and following.

Anyhow, here’s Geetha’s new song composed from her breathtaking lyric re my POETRY TO SONG product called ‘I Walk With You’. The finished song now belongs to its creator, Geetha. I suggest headphones at the ready.

Thanks for the opportunity to have worked with you again, Geetha.

A SILVER RAY OF LIGHT

shirley flower2

In the corner of the sky
Through the window of my mind
Looks to be a silver ray of light

shirley4

To the shiver of a nightmare
Not asleep and not awake
If you hang around you’ll get the last invite

flower8

To the library of dreams
The home of honest schemes
And wild things that only come out when it’s night

You try to get away
From the demonic creatures at play
Whose only purpose is to cause you fright

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Someone won and someone lost
But you can never count the cost
All that you can do is hope the morning sun shines bright

Some music. You might have heard this one before. It’s just been commissioned for a second year of global plays in well known shopping outlets, international banks and business places plus it is regularly featured on a number of radio stations worldwide. A nuisance hardly anyone pays royalties. The song, ‘Devil’s Kiss’. I hope you enjoy;

I SHUT MY EYES & COUNT TO THREE

DOVER HARBOUR

‘A long way from home – the first living thing you’ll see’

Written in the first person and based on an interview with a refugee on TV a while back. It stayed with me.

I walked from somewhere into nowhere
As a lonesome refugee
No possessions, but in my pocket
Safe and sound, a memory

Painted pictures in the hallway
The carved initials on the tree
The storm clouds playing card games
Above the wild and windy sea

“There’s nothing sacred that isn’t secret”
That’s all she said to me
I knew the answer, but not her question
All I wanted was sanctuary
I knew the answer, but not her question
I shut my eyes and count to three

LAST YEAR’S SILHOUETTES

1

‘Last Year’s Silhouettes’

Historians can’t wait until tomorrow
When they’re writing of a time that had no flaws
The planet and the wildlife feeling better
They think it’s because the humans were locked indoors

The interest on borrowed time much too heavy
You can’t stop the clock and runaway no more
In this place, that place, any place there’s a levy
That’s the price of a key to unlock the future’s door

Inside lit candles wake up the sleeping shadows
They dance, they live, they die with no regrets
Only when the sun burns away the grey clouds
Will we see the smiles of last year’s silhouettes

While on the subject of shadows, here’s an old piece of experimental sound art. I call it ‘World of Shadows’. I hope you enjoy.

BROKEN GLASS

folkestone sky (2)

There are no hero’s out tonight, the last one took the late night flight
Above the clouds, under the moon, and down below the next typhoon

Tomorrow’s not another day, tomorrow I start again – OK?
I dreamed of some place far away, where time stands still and echoes betray

What’s not made of hate is beautiful, what’s made of love is often cruel
I don’t need this hassle anymore, locked in behind an unlocked door

In the shadows of last year’s sad song, I wondered where it all went wrong
It’s easy when with words unsaid, on broken glass, barefoot I tread

A good time for a song. It’s called ‘Shadow On The Wall’ from my Devil’s Kiss album. I hope you enjoy;
