MEMORIES & NEW WORDS

Memories & new words are pretty much what my new book ‘Looking for Reasons’ is all about. Without ‘memories’ that inspire, whether they’re from yesterday or last year or ages ago, there would be no ‘new words’; no new songs. I like it that sometimes a few photographs from before trigger lyrical verse. Anyhow, here’s my short video for the book, followed by a few pics of places across The Channel I miss, but still and always will, find motivating.

If you’re interested, ‘LOOKING FOR REASONS’ is available on Amazon, either as a paperback or on Kindle. The UK link is below. Outside of the UK, just type in ‘Zoolon Audio’. The purchase prices have been cut right back, hence they’re not expensive. On Kindle Unlimited it’s even free!

DEAD DAYS, NEW IDEAS

piano1

What does a musician do when the virus has caused the market to be as good as dead? In my case it’s about thinking of other ways of using my music in a way that has a purpose. In this case a marketing purpose – a promo video with backing music for authors.

Better put, a creative marketing video for authors about to launch their new book, or wish to give a bit of extra oomph to a book they already have out there. For example, the one below I made for MIKE STEEDEN’S  latest book.

The Blue-Eyed Cat Promo Video from Mike Steeden on Vimeo.

Basically, all I need from an author is the book front cover and a script, say, of the book’s blurb along with audio, chosen by the author, in the form of a song or instrumental from my easy to access portfolio on BANDCAMP – all I’ll need is the song title. This way you don’t have to go paying a fortune for use of a musician’s copyright as you would if, say, you wanted background music from someone you’ve heard on Spotify or such like.

Anyhow, from that collection of book cover, author’s words and my music I can put the lot together into a video for just £35. Should an author want an original instrumental to match the mood of the book and own that piece of music for themselves then the fee is £100 simply because I’d have to compose, produce and mix and the masterpiece.

If you’re interested you can email me on this link PROMO VIDEOS FOR AUTHORS  or via the link at the top of the blog.

Here’s another one I also made earlier, again trying them out on MIKE STEEDEN

Lastly, if you ever require sound for a marketing video you are making yourself or commissioning elsewhere should you find anything from my music portfolio that fits the bill or if you want me to create a bespoke composition just for you then let me know. For a inexpensive fee, to be agreed, I’d be happy to help out.

THE SUN DON’T SHINE

pride and time1 (3)

‘A broken mirror left behind’

A couple of posts back I wrote some semi-lyrical words. I called them ‘The Secrets of the Blind’ I have been playing around with them hoping to get a new song together. I’m still playing around, adding a slightly different take on the evolution of the songs words and melody. If not prompted by the brilliant poet YASSY KHAN I wouldn’t have got this far with this one. If you don’t know her already I recommend you give her blog a visit. As ever with lyrics they sing better than they read.

The secrets of the blind
A broken mirror left behind
Playing games with your mind
However undefined
They may be

When all you see is what’s inside your head
Like the open book you never read
For daylight read instead
The darkness of the dead
The sun don’t shine

You captured all the stars
From the West End to Planet Mars
Even today you bear the scars
Of burning violins and old guitars
You cannot see

The day Saint Peter broke your heart
That’s when you almost fell apart
You swapped a lead role for a bit part
That wasn’t very smart
I heard you say

Some music. Another track from Guitar Jam – Volume 1. This one is called ‘Alternative Rock Groove – F Major. I hope you enjoy;

10 DAYS AWAY

the nothing4‘The End of The Beginning’ by Zoolon

In a few hours’ time my acoustic and me are off to the middle of nowhere for 10 days. No internet access unless I can manage to take my mobile into a town or city. How surreal is that? No social media.

Also, it maybe the last time I get to have free movement across European borders. Soon the nasty UK brigade will ruin everything.  Anyway, I’m sorry to be missing your posts for those 10 days.

For now, a few random bits and pieces you might enjoy. First, my most popular song if stats are anything to go by ‘Sunlight & The Dust’

Although I ought to add that  ‘Devils Kiss’  featuring a duet with Fifi Rong is catching up at a rate of knots.

Next, a vid from two years back of me mucking about with guitars;

Lastly, a piece of classical music electronic style called ‘Barbed Wire’. It reminds me of ‘borders’;

Keep safe; see you soon ~ Zoolon aka George

ZOOLON’S ASTONISHING WORLD OF LAMPPOSTS

lamp4

Before I get onto the subject of specific lampposts please note the words in the following verse make no mention of lampposts. Shakespeare rarely mentioned lampposts in his plays or sonnets.

Zoolon’s modern day take on ‘Romeo & Juliet’

My princess read me my horoscope, on the face of it, it sounded good

Her old man read me my fortune, kicked me out of the neighbourhood

Star-crossed lovers and feuding families, sworn enemies and a street brawl

My princess supported Tottenham, I The Great Arsenal

Somehow, I don’t think this one will make the cut as a lyric for my new album.

Anyway, the header pic is of an updated quad version of the East End of London’s very own Victorian ‘Smog Buster’ lamppost (hated by Jack the Ripper, yet to this day still admired by London’s Cockney community) decorated in the style the neo artists of Folkestone, Kent demand.

Below, a classic example of the Good Ordinary Lamppost so adored by the Belgians.

Next a fine example of The Martello Lamppost. You’ll find many of these defensive lampposts in towns and villages along the coastal areas of Kent and East Sussex. Originally installed with Napoleon in mind, these little beauties stand tall and proud. Had the vertically challenged Napoleon invaded England these unusually high lampposts were designed with the view of preventing him reaching up and stealing the lightbulbs. It was common knowledge his lover, Josephine, had a passion for collecting rare lightbulbs.

Personally, I’m not sure the next one is an actual lamppost. I took this shot in France and when I asked a local onion seller what it was his reply sounded a bit like ‘a lamppost’. What more can I say.

NEXT TIME – ZOOLON’S COMPLETE GUIDE TO ABANDONED SEQUIN CUSHIONS

I’ve not added stuff to my YouTube Channel in a while. The fact I’ve been too busy is a poor excuse. That’ll change soon as I’ve a few projects on the go that need video. For anyone interested, or who hasn’t watched before here’s the ‘all-in-one’ SAMPLE PLAY vids link. The video starts with ‘Drum Sticks’, then ‘Ping Pong Ball’ onto a ‘Pen Mash’ finishing with a ‘Guitar Mash’. I hope you enjoy;
