LIQUID TRUTH

Pieces of Life’ by TheodorWorker

‘Liquid Truth’

All my bridges burnt
No sparkle in the stars
No redness in the sunset
Just the sad song of guitars

You have a version of the truth I can’t believe
You’re all wrapped up in lies, I’ve got to leave
You tell liquid truth from behind those eyes
But you hide it well behind indifferent sighs

How soon ‘not now’ becomes ‘never’*
And never nearly always means forever

When will all the pieces come together?
And if I don’t like the picture am I stuck with it forever
Yes, when will all the pieces come together?
And if I don’t like the picture am I stuck with it forever

The candlelight flickers but the flame holds strong
I guess you’re wondering now where you belong
You say you don’t want your death to last for hours
“Don’t wait until I’m dead to send me flowers”#

*Quote about laziness from Martin Luther (1483-1546) German priest & philosopher.

AFTER THE STORM

Art by Lucid Dream Photography

I’m carrying the burden of your sanity
Hoping you won’t take it the wrong way
Coming in last is better than first
They say that every loser has their day

The beast rests deep inside the forest
The darkest places summon up no fear
Rays of hope they cannot penetrate
A canopy of words no one can hear

Dreams can survive upon remnants
Of beauty that exists in your mind’s eye
The truth is always the greater part of dreaming
And you know dreams, they just have to wave goodbye

So I’m carrying the burden of your sanity
Looking at this world in my own way
Knowing if I let the moment pass by
You’ll set the price that I can afford but never pay

But after the storm when all is quite
And the winds and the torrents subside
After the storm when the sun smiles again
You’ll survive, yes you’ll survive with eyes opened wide

DOVE OF PEACE

The Dove Has Flownby Gregory Anthony Stone

I don’t want to see the big picture
I’d rather be left alone
I’m not the centre of your universe
It’s a pity the dove of peace has flown

Some say there are too many patriots
Some say freedom fighters are too few
Some say that it’s a bad omen
To hail a hero out of some loser we once knew

Go fight the way the rebels fight for freedom
Stealth by day and at night let it be
And though they’ll never know a victory
No empire conquers what it cannot see

They say ‘If you’re not with us you’re against us’
I guess that triggers a crusade
The moral code out of balance
The way of man that we’ve betrayed

I don’t want to see the big picture
I’d rather be left alone
I’m not the centre of your universe
We’re walking blind into the unknown

A HANDFUL OF STARS

‘Reaching to the Stars’ photo by Ares Nguyen

How can you run before you can walk?
How can you speak before you can talk?
How can you listen before you can hear?
How can you cry without just one tear?

How can you dream before you’re asleep?
How can you laugh when you ought to weep?
How can you touch before you can feel?
How do you know what you’re seeing is real?

How can you hate before you know love?
How can the eagle fly with the dove?
How can the mountains part for the sea?
How come in life’s prison you still feel free?

How can you try and yet always lose?
How can you cut and never get bruised?
How can you ache but never get hurt?
How come love rubs your face in the dirt?

The answers are hiding but easy to find
The clues all alive in the back of your mind
One day you’ll stumble never to fall
Don’t rely on the words ‘love conquers all’
Mad as it sounds go grab a handful of stars
Neptune, Pluto, Venus and Mars
Never let go and hold them tight to your heart
Let yesterday’s darkness take you back to the start

HUNTING ALONE

Surreal Art by HolgaJen

HUNTING ALONE

It’s only the end
It’s where you descend
When you can’t be bothered to speak
It’s a lazy old street
And the people you meet
Are either just boring or freak

‘What made you this way?’
That’s all they can say
But you don’t want to hear anymore
You’re out on your own
Timed out and alone
And you’re eyes; they just stare at the floor

‘I’m reaching the end’
That’s the message you send
When you’ve got nothing to say
In this life game of chess
The key to success
Is actually wanting to play

A long time ago
You put on a show
And made it look like you care
Now you hunt alone
All the chances you’ve blown
But you just don’t want to go there

You keep counting down time
You don’t say a word, you just mime
Love hangs by the tiniest thread
Your ship is running aground
And the port you were bound
Remains some lost place in your head

Time for music to fit in – I hope – with the words. This one from my Rainbow’s End album.

AN EMPTY HALL

This spoof mag cover from about ten years ago was found in a pile of old stuff. I’d almost forgotten it, and my long hair and glasses back then when making music was just that – making music.

AN EMPTY HALL

I never saw the crossroads on last year’s map
Should I take the left turn or the right?
Straight ahead all I can see is a never-ending trap
As the sun shuts its eyes and says ‘goodnight’

That’s the time the dreams open a doorway
Grey shadows all dressed up in colours black
I’d swap my dreams for those shadows any day
Dreams seem so much better looking back

‘Time Out’ for now stares me in the face
I need space like you need drink and food
I don’t want to leave you without a trace
And join the broken, workless multitude

Indifference on the menu for tomorrow
I locked a daydream away just yesterday
Circumstance is an empty hall show
A place where shadows smile and look away

Larry’s given up the old guitar
Kate the mandolin
And Finn sold his accordion
No more ‘Busking in Berlin

Regarding the mentions in the above, first, my piece, ‘Time Out’ then next an old song of mine, ‘Busking in Berlin’. I hope you enjoy;

OLD LADY & HER LIGHT-BULBS

‘Pics of an angry sea & friendly clouds’

Hiding away where no one can find you is so much better than living out a pandemic locked away in a no man’s land where everyone thinks they ‘absolutely‘ must scores moral points.

The old blind lady knew that. She’d lived through wars and famine and years of the hatred of people like her, who knew stuff but couldn’t see a thing.

In the supermarket the woman on the checkout who sighed a lot told the old lady that light-bulbs weren’t essential items for blind people in lockdown. She said, “You must know you’re only allowed to buy essentials these days.”

The old lady put it to the woman who sighed a lot, that her Guide Dog could see and that was why she wanted a light-bulb. Request denied, the old lady wandered off home.

On Guy Fawkes night the explosions of fireworks scared the life out of all the dogs, cats and confused bats in the neighborhood. The woman on the checkout who sighed a lot had agreed with all her customers that fireworks were essentials.

Time for some gentle music for sad, sometimes silent, times. ‘A Life’ it’s called. It’s from my ‘Dream Rescuer’ album available for download from BANDCAMP I hope you enjoy;

THE SAD SONG SET YOU FREE

GARDEN13

‘The Whole of The Moon’

Two pieces of music today. First my instrumental piece, ‘Summer Died on a Saturday’, then, after the words, a song called ‘Red Planet’. Both numbers were on my mind when writing these words. In-between each verse a few garden pics.

Places I’ve been yet never seen
And castles in the air
The shadows I knew are now but few
The landscape cold and bare

garden may 2020 3

Summer died on a Saturday
Autumn died at birth
Spring fell in love with Winter
Grey clouds a poor disguise for Mother Earth

GARDEN14

The last I heard of you, you left for Mars
It’s closer to The Sun
Closer to the source of life
The place where it all begun

GARDEN12

I hope the Red Planet takes good care of you
I hope you might remember me
My guitar, my piano
And the night the sad song set you free

A CAT IN SYRIA

folkestoneinfeb28022020 (2)

9am – Saturday’s early morning clouds dish out a warning that a better than average, but not all that when it comes to serious storms, Storm Jorge is on his way (you can just see the coast of France on the horizon – in sunshine! – if you look hard enough)

dover10

10am – Yesterdays death wish puddle gets revived courtesy of a bored dark cloud with nothing better to do than rain some more in the company of his new best friend, ‘a useful blocked drain.’

puddle

Midday – Teeming rain gets me and my carton of porridge oats plus a pain de raison – I was particularly looking forward to – totally soaked and inedible. Maybe I should have bought something in a tin.

doverfire5

2pm – The sun says a quick ‘hello’, checks for rainbows that aren’t there, before giving up on Earth as a lost cause. He heads off to The Dark Side of The Moon as she never calls him a total waste of ‘Space’.

doverfire3

6pm – An empty underpass where the old bloke who owns a harmonica but can’t get any sort of tune out of it usually hangs out. No one’s seen him for awhile. I heard that the cash rich tourists coming off the cruise liners in the harbour didn’t like walking past him as they made their way into town.

doverfire4 (2)

7pm – A great night for freezing to death, crossing roads and unwittingly posing for a pointless random photo I was taking.

doverfire2 (2)

8pm – Time to traumatize the pigeons, gulls, cats and dogs with the pointless sounds of exploding fireworks the cruise liners think are OK. That got me thinking I wouldn’t like to be ‘A Cat in Syria’ right now. I might use that as a title for an appropriate new classical piece one day.

Here’s an experimental piece of sound art I wrote a while back. It’s called ‘World of Shadows’, although if I was giving it its title today I think I’d have called it, ‘Land of Shadows’. I hope you enjoy;

THE ARTIST

georges self2 (2)

I can’t draw let alone alone paint. However, fellow blogger Ted Giffin can. Not just can, he’s actually a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Indiana University, the Herron School of Art, plus he’s a musician as well.

So, I get to see a pic of me (above) on his blog. I let my mother take a look and she says she want’s it for her birthday. Ted obliges. Not only that, he paints version two (below). She’s over the moon.

ted4 (2)

I get speaking to the old man. He says, and I quote, “You couldn’t ask Ted to knock one out for Shirl could you? I’ll add it to her list of b’day presents.” Shirley = my mother. Once more, Ted obliges. Her birthday was a success all round. Her pic below.

georges-mum (2)

We were all in a Turkish restaurant on the big day. The old man reminds me that back in 2017 Ted did the artwork for the front and back covers for his book, ‘Notoriously Naked Flames’, so for good measure I’ve included these also, for no other reason than it shows, yet again, that Ted is a great talent.

I recommend you check out the work of TED GIFFIN and, if you don’t know him already, see what you’re missing.

Time for some music. Here’s one from the new album available on BANDCAMP . It’s called ‘Melancholy Groove’. I hope you like it;
