Another older song is ‘Red Planet’. I wrote this a while back around the time the news was full of stuff on the possibility people going to Mars to settle. Seemed like a good idea to me. Still does.

FAULT LINES

This is a demo I made a couple of years back. Just added it to my SoundCloud. I got the idea for the lyric from Rudyard Kipling’s quote, “He travels the fastest who travels alone.” It always sounded the way things should be to me. FAULT LINES

I travel the fastest,

In a world that is shrinking, my heart turns to stone,

I’ll trade this new freedom; for all that I have known.

I who travel alone,

Like a worn-out suit in a charity shop,

I’d trade this new freedom; my religion I’d swap.

We are thrown into this world,

Some tumble; some will fall.

The pendulum swings,

Tectonic plates shift, fault lines are drifting for now

Snapping apart the bond of the peasant and plough.

Turn around and look back for me,

That is the way a heart learns to bleed.

I can see what needs doing,

I can feel all the pain,

I can reach out and touch,

But I can’t loosen the chain.

ON THE EDGE

This experimental electronic demo track (made in Bitwig) is my look at a mind on the edge of madness. We all go that way sometimes I think. It gradually builds up from a revolving beat, gets a bit choral (I think madness is a bit choral) goes darker before a little panic sets in. The photo is one I took at the bi-annual World Puppet Theatre Festival in Charleville-Mézières, France. Weird place. I hope you enjoy this track. Here’s the link;

With this simple ambient, electronic track, I wanted to experiment with the synth Alchemy and create a song that relies heavily on automation to keep the listener’s interest alive. THE SEARCH FOR SILENCE

There is no such thing as silence

I know that

The dictionary tells lies

Once I locked myself in a lead coffin

(might or might not have been lead)

After 4, maybe 5 minutes

I realized I could hear my heart beat

My clothes rustle

Even cotton shirts rustle when locked in too long

They never tell you that in the shop

My breath whispered in its own language

A cruel percussion of bells ringing in my head

Then the oxygen ran away screaming

This post is my first ever ‘blog’. I go by the name of George and for my sins I write songs, make sound art and produce royalty free music samples for a living. Odd as it may seem, I like to capture sounds and play around with them. In many ways captured sound is like a chrysalis. Once manipulated it sometimes emerges as a butterfly.

If you click the above YouTube link you can see and hear a piece made using a random ping pong ball and an ancient Indian brass dish to create a piece of simple Sound Art. All the sounds in this video (synths and bass included) are directly manipulated from the hits you see me make with the ping pong ball upon the dish.
