GINNY
It wasn’t the dragon
It wasn’t Merlin
It wasn’t the jester
Nor his old tambourine
It wasn’t the French knight
They called Lancelot
Nor evil Morgan le Fay
And the fall of Camelot
Dark Age’s disasters
Round table no more
Le Morte d’Arthur
Lady of the Lake came ashore
She took care of Excalibur
Kept it safe under water
Away from the wars
Away from the slaughter
It wasn’t because of a battle
Nor a lost wedding ring
It was his lady Ginny
Who broke the heart of Arthur, her King
She shouldn’t get blamed though
She just loved two great men
Love has its drawbacks
In the now and back then
Some say it’s all fiction
Or was just a dumb game
But one things for certain
Nothing would be ever the same
I have to admit I’m into Arthurian legend lately. Reading is about the only plus coming out of corona virus. I don’t think this lyrical style verse will ever make a song, but who knows what direction I’ll take when the world’s back to normal.
Next, probably my favourite song for all sorts of reasons. It’s from the Irish band Villagers and it is what I’d call a complete number. It’s just a shame it wasn’t mine.
Here’s one of mine. A weird instrumental called Barbed Wire from my The Forgotten Daughter Of Zeus album. I hope you enjoy;
If you’re interested in my book of lyrical verse, ‘LOOKING FOR REASONS’ (above) is available on Amazon, either as a paperback or on Kindle. The UK link is below. Outside of the UK, just type in ‘Zoolon Audio’. The purchase prices have been cut right back, hence they’re not expensive. On Kindle Unlimited it’s even free!

I’ve always been gripped by everything related to King Arthur and Avalon. Dragons? Always 🙂

Thanks, Chris. You’ve caught me out with the dragons. I was thinking of Merlin’s owl but it wasn’t doing it for me, hence the dragons. Keep it to yourself though. Thanks again ~ George

Everyone loves Arthur’s story, and that poem would make a beautiful song…

Enjoyed this very much, and did not the minstrels play and sing their tales. I love Arthurian lore.

Thanks. I reckon a harp would be needed for a Dark Age song. I’ve never played on, maybe my mandolin might work. I’ll think on that. Thanks again ~ George

The mandolin would work, isn’t a lyre a cross between a guitar and harp?

I guess it is. I’m limited to some extent to all guitar types/genres, the mandolin and piano, so it would have to be the mandolin for me as I never work with other instrumental artists on my songs. Thanks ~ George

Loved the poem but the song was very sad. I liked the voice but too sentimental today 🤗

I agree with the poem to song experience with your writing above: it would be very good. But who knows what will inspire you when the time happens…

Thanks again, Ka. I’m working on weird, complex jazz guitar at the moment. It’s not my favourite genre but it’s has no boundaries. Something might come of it one day ~ George

Kinda sad but I love the book about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. I love this piece you wrote too. Was it Ginny’s fault to love two men in different ways? Or was it Lancelot’s who betrayed his king?

Thank you. I’m not sure if anyone is to blame – or is that me taking the easy route out? Things happen I suppose. Thanks again, Marisse ~ George

Nope. That is you taking the neutral ground. For, in reality, truths have many variations. In certain cultures, the practice of polygamy and polyamory is being done. So, who are we to question it? But, anyway, I love this piece of yours.

You just had me thinking how odd it is that a bloke can have loads of wife’s – in certain lands – but if a girl like Ginny almost ends up with two men she stands to get the blame. I support the feminists. Thanks again ~ George

Like the Maasai tribe in Tanzania where men are allowed to have multiple wives (which, by the way, if you look at it in an objective manner, is a sound economical strategy – also, at least, if you are the woman and the husband is sick, you got loads of help) or in Nepal where polyandry is practiced and a woman can have multiple husbands (again, if you look at it objectively without our usual discrimination, it is more of an economical strategy than anything else). Nice exchanging thoughts with yah George. Have a good day or night, whichever is the case.

I enjoy your music but am writing to thank you for crediting the photographer and model. A lot of work went into the image. Artist types..we collaborate, we validate each others’ work, we respect each others work.

PS: The Arthurian legends have it all. 30 years from now the next generation will be picking it up. You are in good company.

Thanks again – I think I’m doing this in reverse, sorry. Crediting is so important, believe me I know it well. There’s been quite a few times my own work has been stolen, let alone not credited. It’s a nuisance ~ George
