There’s an annoying Christmas ad on TV that has a melody I don’t particularly like yet it’s one of those songs that get inside your head. Christmas songs on ads are often like it. I call them creativity destroyers. I checked out the one that was killing my creativity. It’s a song called ‘Little Drummer Boy’. You may know it. In the lyric there’s a lot of repetition based on the noise that goes ‘…pa rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum rum pum pum pum, Shall I play for you? pa rum pum pum pum on my drum?…’ The thing is the last bit ‘on my drum’ was making my brain subconsciously say, “give it an update”. Not only have I got a tune I don’t like playing on a loop inside my head but I now have an update phrase I threw into the mix. For ‘On my drum’ read ‘Me & My Gun’. Try it out for size. It fits. At least I got something to write about out of the torture. I have to add that even if they were legal in the UK there’s no way I would ever have a gun.

Me and my gun are going to change the world
Instead of bullets we use butterflies
Me and my gun at your temple
Will be a neat surprise

Me and my gun won’t kill you
We’re not out to shoot you dead
Me and my gun aim to save the planet
At least that’s what the butterflies have said

Some music from my YouTube. This one is an ‘E Minor Emotional Groove’. I hope you enjoy;

Lastly, it’s funny how I can get things wrong. In summer 2018 I took a pic outside a restaurant in Brussels. A few days back I was going through the WP Reader and saw what I thought was my pic. It was as good as identical to mine. Paranoia when I saw the credit was down to someone else. Thankfully I got it so wrong. We’d both simply taken a photo of the same scene. Here it is;

    1. Thanks, Shey. You know when you hear a song that’s full on with the ‘pa rum pum pum pum’s’ it makes me and I’m sure a million other songwriters around the world wonder why we bother doing the best we can with our melody and lyrics trying to find that one great number. A year or so back I read that Don McLean when asked what American Pie meant to him, he replied ‘It meant I’d never have to work again’. He deserved his result, yet some of these Christmas songs are so bad but make fortunes. I must be doing something wrong ~ George

    1. Thank you, Lady Yasmin. Did you know some people have a phobia about butterflies. It’s called Lepidopterophobia – but I had to copy and paste that in as there was no chance of me spelling it, I can hardly pronounce it ~ George

      1. Oh , what a tongue twister of a phobia, Lord Zoolon , neither can I pronounce it , lol I stopped at Lepi… but I sure did learn something today , strange that anyone can be scared of these wonderful creatures .

      2. The lady in question is a friend of my mum. Even if she sees a pic of a butterfly she faints and if people talk about them in front of her she has to rush off to the bathroom to be sick. If she couldn’t work out it was me I’d write a song (a kind, odd type song) about her ~ George

    1. Thanks. You had me laughing there. I’m not sure about that one. That anthem never does it for me. You’re right though. The melody doesn’t hang around in my head annoying me. The best ones – because they are so bad they ought to have a genre of their own – are the South American ones. They’re a comedy without any jokes. Thanks again ~ George

  1. I live very close to the USA, and their guns are sneaking across the boarder.
    “Me and My Gun” is more relevant than ever… pa rump pa pa gun💥💥
    I enjoy the holiday season, but there s no way I will ever buy into the religious history… or the commercial contemporary insanity.
    I like you, Zoolon! I send you a toast… of some delicious mushroom dish.

    More importantly, your music is fab!

    1. Thanks, Resa. A while back I nearly wrote an anti-war song using religious history as the theme but thought about it and realized I didn’t need the controversy. I’d forgotten that. Maybe an electronic orchestration version might work. Multiple thinks. Thanks for that and enjoy the festive season ~ George
